2023 WINTER CONFERENCE

The 7th Annual Reacting Winter Conference, hosted by the University of Georgia Reacting to the Past Program, will be held from January 13-15, 2023. In response to community feedback, the conference will be a remote event, allowing you to attend from anywhere through Zoom.

Our theme for this year's conference is From Bottlenecks to Breakthroughs, and will focus on will focus on how we can overcome the challenges that come with implementing Reacting in the classroom, whether you are just starting out with Reacting to the Past or are a veteran user of active learning strategies.

WINTER CONFERENCE WORKSHOP
"From Bottlenecks to Breakthroughs: Strategies for Success with Reacting to the Past"

GAME WORKSHOP

The Reacting pedagogy is best understood by experiencing as students do, albeit in abbreviated versions. This game workshop provides a condensed gameplay experience over two days, broad context for the simulation and mechanics, and include post-game guidance on how to use it in your own classroom.

Participants will be sent a gamebook outlining the topics and debates of a historical moment, as well as a detailed a role sheet for a historical actor in those debates. Participants prepare and engage as that historical actor, making arguments and forging alliances to achieve specific Victory Objectives. You need not be a specialist to play (or run) a Reacting game, but you should plan on doing some preparatory reading. We are pleased to offer two published games in new revisions, and two games in development, slated for forthcoming publication. They include:

WORKSHOP-ONLY REGISTRATION $75
Instructors wishing to attend only the  "From Bottlenecks to Breakthroughs: Strategies for Success with Reacting to the Past" workshop on Friday can register for only that workshop. These registrants cannot observe or participate in the game workshop.
